Increased Potato Yield from Silicon Additives

Trial work presented at the III Silicon in Agriculture Conference, Brazil, 2005
The material used was a Potassium Silicate (K2SiO3) liquid. Dose rates varied from 0.2 to 1% into 600 litres per hectare. The crop was sprayed 14 times before harvest.
The crop was potato, the variety was cv. Atlantic
- As the dose rate increased there was “an improvement in leaf architecture in all parts of the plant canopy”
- The yield of extra and commercial potatoes “increased to up to 22%” above that of the control plots
