Silicon Reduces Abiotic (Environmental) Stress in Plants

By: Yong C. Liang, Chinese Ministry of Agriculture

A review of literature and trial work by Yong C. Liang from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture illustrated that silicon is proven to effectively mitigate various abiotic stresses including:

  • Reducing the effect of manganese, aluminium and cadmium toxicity
  • Alleviating the effect of drought
  • Assisting plants to survive frost
  • Reducing the effects of salinity on plant life
