Yields jump by 47% in Colombian rice trials using MaxSil

A Fertilup project in the Meta region of Colombia in 2024 using MaxSil produced big yield increases with and without the addition of nitrogen fertilisers.

Dose rates of 50Kg/ha and 80Kg/ha of MaxSil were tested with different dose rates of nitrogen-based fertiliser. Tests were done both with compost and without and replicated three times.

The biggest yield increase of 47% was produced with a combination of MaxSil in powder form, nitrogen fertiliser and compost.

In other results MaxSilTM, a novel silicon based biostimulant, used alone without any NPK inputs increased yield up to 21% and when combined with a compost boosted production by up to 35%.

The trials were initiated to identify and test opportunities for biostimulant products that would benefit the agricultural industry in Colombia.

These crops were chosen for their importance in Colombian agriculture.

The trials were conducted by Bogotá-based agricultural research company Didesagro PN SAS which specialises in applied agricultural research for the registration and development of synthetic products, bio-inputs and plant extracts for crop protection and nutrition, soil conditioners and adjuvants.
